Christmas Bauble

I wish I could say I had this idea (or that I'd painted this), I found this picture on the internet and just love the simplicity of this little bauble.  Imagine a whole Christmas tree hanging with these, or simply hang them from ribbons in a window any time of the year.

The Cabbage Rose

Here's a picture of my sister in law and myself when we did our Cabbage Rose canvas picture during our courses.

One Stroke For Beginners

For five years now I have devoted myself to sugar art, sometimes I feel that I eat, sleep and breath cakes!  I decided that I wanted to do something for myself, something that I'd always wanted to do and that was painting classes.
In the back of my mind I still had cakes, knowing that whatever I could do on a canvas I could do on a cake, but that was just a byproduct of the whole thing.
First I went to You Tube and looked at all the painting videos.  Donna Dewberry made it look so simple and I knew that this particular art from could be done on cakes, so for these two reasons I looked for a One Stroke Instructor.  On the official website there were lists of Certified Instructors and one, Mary Ann, who was quite close to where I lived.  My sister in law began driving out to Mary Ann's studio once a week for a lesson and that's how I got hooked on One Stroke.

Video - How to Paint a Cabbage Rose

How It All Began...

Donna Dewberry started painting many years ago when her six children were young.  She taught herself without books and instructions and had a natural talent for decorative art.
In 1995 the One Stroke Program was started with the association of Plaid (the makers of the Folk Art Paints, essential to the One Stroke Technique).
One Stroke is a decorative art that lends itself to furniture, boxes, frames, walls and so on.  The learning method is quick and simple and the results achieved with very little tuition are amazing.
For someone like myself who has never been able to paint or draw, this technique enables me to feel like an artist, finally.  Through the pages of this blog I hope to be able to express myself in many ways and hope that some of you will be encouraged to try this wonderful style of painting for yourselves.
